Ms. Sonja Patterson is a dedicated Special Education Teacher at REACH. From Winchester, CA, Sonja earned her Master’s in Special Education and teaching credentials from National University. Her journey in education began in 2006 as a long-term substitute teacher for English Language Learners and Health at Moreno Valley Unified School District. It was during this time that she discovered her calling as a Special Education Teacher, inspired by a Resource Teacher she met.

Over the years, Sonja has held various positions, including Special Day Class Teacher in Moreno Valley Unified School District (2007-2015), a high school Special Day Class Teacher at Clark County School District in Las Vegas (2015-2017), Special Education Resource Teacher at Audeo Charter School in Escondido (2017-2021), and a Behavioral Support Class Teacher in Hemet Unified School District (2017-2024). Her current role at REACH, teaching Special Education for grades K-6, aligns perfectly with her commitment to the philosophy that "all students can succeed if given the proper tools."

Sonja’s favorite aspect of her job is witnessing the moment a student realizes they can learn, finding it both powerful and motivating. Her greatest accomplishment is seeing her students graduate high school, often reminding them that success was always within their reach, needing only opportunity and support.

Outside of the classroom, Sonja enjoys gardening, going to the movies, reading, walking, and spending quality time with her family. Her favorite book is Of Mice and Men due to the profound lessons it offers, and she enjoys sushi and poke bowls. Sonja’s personal goals include guiding her two daughters toward their own aspirations, traveling, exploring different types of coffee, and learning about various cultures. Professionally, she aims to create meaningful learning opportunities for students with disabilities, collaborate with colleagues, and stay updated on special education regulations. Her passion for education and belief in student potential make her a valued member of the REACH team.
